Exotic ancient monuments, modern skyscrapers and remnants of colonial imperialism all offer visitors a wealth of historical attractions and tourist sights. From big bustling metropolitan areas to the lush green countryside, from shopping at local night markets to seeing artists at work, there is no shortage of things to see and do.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Gulf of Tonkin's' Halong Bay (Bay of the Descending Dragons), is perhaps one of the most magnificent natural splendors in the Far East. The bay consists of a dense cluster of over 3,000 limestone islands rising spectacularly from the ocean. Several of the islands have grottoes and caves leading to fresh water lakes and amazingly spectacular vistas of stalactites and stalagmites within. The waters are calm and crystal clear affording views of the coral reef, with white sandy beaches. Many islands have acquired their names as a result of the interpretation of their unusual shapes, whereas some islands support floating villages for fishermen.

Halong makes for a picturesque and relaxing beach vacation, especially ideal on a traditional junk.

Hoi An also has a lovely beach, perfect for a few days of relaxation, sun and sand.
