Once known as the 'Pearl of Asia', the lovely French-built capital city of Phnom Penh suffered significantly at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. Cambodia has since risen as a global destination during the last decade, and Phnom Penh has re-emerged as the center for the country's economy, governance and tourism. The magnificent Royal Palace, the riverside promenade and the city's fine colonial architecture all make Phnom Penh an ideal place to relax and absorb the local flair in this place of great historical beauty and cultural attraction.
After breakfast, set out on a city tour to visit the National Museum which is home to the world's foremost collection of ancient Khmer artifacts, then head to the Royal Palace (built in 1866 by King Norodom and home to the Silver Pagoda) before carrying on to the Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocide and onwards to the Russian market and the magnificent 15th century Wat Phnom Temple, Phnom Penh's namesake.

Drive to Siem Reap (6.5 hrs)
The name Siem Reap means the 'Defeat of Siam' and refers to a century-old battle, commemorated in the bas relief stone carvings of its monuments. Siem Reap is the window to the world-famous Angkor Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ruins of Angkor, located amid forests and farmland to the north of the Great Lake (Tonle Sap), number well over a thousand and range in scale from nondescript piles of brick rubble scattered through rice fields to that of the magnificent Angkor Wat. Many of the temples at Angkor have been restored, and together, they constitute the most significant site of Khmer architecture in Cambodia.
Set forth on a fascinating trip to the impressive, glorious ancient Angkor Wat , set in a stunning temple complex with five magnificent towers and vast gallery complex, whose chief attraction is the dominating 'Angkor Wat'. See Angkor Thom, a 3 sq km walled and moated royal city. Visit Ta Phrom, a quiet, sprawling monastic complex engulfed by massive fig and silk-cotton trees.
